Effectively Treating H. pylori
H. pylori infection poses significant challenges in clinical practice, with many patients remaining undiagnosed or receiving outdated treatments. The 2024 American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) guidelines offer updated recommendations for diagnosing and treating H. pylori infection. However, many healthcare providers still use older methods and ineffective treatments, leading to poor outcomes such as persistent infection, increased antimicrobial resistance, and higher healthcare costs.
For gastroentrologists and primary care physicians, these gaps result in missed diagnoses and erroneous treatments, causing long-term issues like peptic ulcers and gastric cancer and promote antibiotic resistance.
This webinar, led by Dr. Steven F. Moss and Dr. Colin W. Howden, will provide the latest updates from the ACG guidelines on H. pylori infection. The session will offer expert advice on who, when, and how to test for H. pylori, helping healthcare providers adopt effective diagnostic and treatment strategies.
Learning Objectives
This webinar will help you:
- Understand the epidemiology of H. pylori infection, including prevalence and risk factors
- Recognize the disease associations of H. pylori infection and its recognized long-term consequences if left untreated
- Learn from the ACG 2024 clinical guidelines on who should be tested for H. pylori, with a focus on specific populations at risk of gastric cancer
- Review non-invasive testing methods and updated treatment protocols, including the importance of universal re-testing after treatment
- Explore strategies for managing patients in whom initial treatment has failed with a consideration of the role of antibiotic resistance by H. pylori
